Patients experiencing chronic pain no longer need to leave Lake County for interventional pain procedures. Sutter Lakeside Hospital welcomes Dr. Jason Pope, who will begin performing pain management procedures at the hospital on Thursday, June 25th.
Dr. Pope’s practice, Evolve Restorative Care, treats joint pain and arthritis, nerve disorders, musculoskeletal injuries, abdominal and pelvic pain, headaches and facial pain, and spinal disorders.
Personal, Innovative and Local
“My family is from an area very much like Lake County,” said Dr. Pope. “The perception is that you have to travel outside of the community in order to access expertise.” That is not the case anymore.
Dr. Pope, who also oversees practices in Petaluma, Santa Rosa and Healdsburg, is proud to bring forward thinking innovation in pain care to the community so people can stay within Lake County for care. “We’ve identified the gap in available services, and want to support filling that gap.”
“In the breadth of healthcare, pain management is in its infancy,” said Dr. Pope. “Every day we discover more about how pain is transmitted and propagated, and the innovative ways to treat it.” Dr. Pope is passionate about clinical research, saying “we actively enroll patients in research projects that expose them to cutting edge technologies and treatments that they otherwise would not have access to.”
“We’re developing a community in Lake County to,” said Dr. Pope. “We collaborated with Sutter Lakeside to create a patient centered medical home to provide all specialty care that was historically lacking in pain management.”
Treating Pain with Purpose
Dr. Pope connects personally to his mission and philosophy. “My family has been touched with the challenges associated with chronic pain; seeing the way they were managed opened up an opportunity to improve that process. When I started my medical career as an anesthesiologist, I really appreciated the interactions I had with my patients but lacked the continuity of a relationship throughout their whole medical journey. Pain management offered an opportunity for enduring relationships.”
“My philosophy of medicine is to provide high-quality, patient centered medicine,” said Dr. Pope. “We’re creating an environment where people feel supported through their chronic pain complaints, and we’re developing strategies for timely treatment. We ensure that we give people the best, high-quality advances available in our field in a caring and kind way.”
Expanding Access Through Capacity
“Dr. Pope not only brings with him a wealth of experience in interventional pain management procedures, but also in procedure room efficiency,” said Scott Knight, Chief Administrative Officer, Sutter Lakeside Hospital. “Ultimately, improvements in efficiency lead to shorter wait times for patients experiencing pain. Increasing the number of interventions performed means increasing the number of patients we can support through their chronic pain treatments.”
Dr. Pope’s treatment model also aims to reduce the time a patient waits for an appointment, and the time between diagnosis and intervention. In the office setting, Dr. Pope partners with a Physician’s Assistant to help manage patients.
“No one wants to wait when they’re in pain,” said Knight. “Dr. Pope is an excellent fit for the community and Sutter Lakeside Hospital, because he puts patients first with empathy and kindness.”
