Downtown Lakeport, California was alive with activity on August 14 as the hottest cars, trucks, bikes, military vehicles and vintage RVs gathered in a car show fundraiser for Operation Tango Mike. The charity has been sending care packages to deployed military personnel for 18 years with over 23,000 packages shipped. In total over $12,500 was raised this year, making this the organization’s largest fundraiser. But, more than that, the event draws people to downtown Lakeport providing a much-needed boost to the shops and eateries in this historic town.
Show organizer Tony Barthel was overjoyed again this year saying “The City of Lakeport, Lakeport Police and Fire Departments and the Lake County Health Department are such great partners in this. It makes is a joy to do this event every year.”
The show sponsors, too, are an important component with Hero sponsors Bill and Dana Kearney stepping up with $1000 toward the cause. Lincoln-Leavitt Insurance and Running Creek Casino were both $500 sponsors with BiCoastal Media also providing $500 in kind in radio advertising. The Clearlake Club is a highlight to visit for many at the event and stepped up with $350, and Country Air Properties donated $250 and Wine in the Willows, Guerrero Brothers Auto Body and Juicy’s Pizza each ponied up $100.
The Early Lake Lions poured locally-crafted beer donated by O’Meara Brothers Brewery, another popular stop for visitors, and the Lions are always extraordinarily generous with their time at the event as well as their their donation.
Local artisans crafted all the trophies this year with incredible sculptures in automobilia being done by Devin Sheridan, Diego Harris and Paul Malley. Eight year old welder, Mason Frazell, hand crafted a special trophy for the event and presented it to the lucky recipient. Lynda Steely created a one of a kind wooden V-twin motorcycle trophy that was lighted and included a remote control and welder Wyatt Smith contributed a very special award.
