The Middletown Art Center is celebrating its seventh year by officially becoming MAC For Lake County, the County’s premier contemporary art destination. Join this historic moment at the MAC For Lake County launch event on October 9th, 4:30pm to 7pm, at MAC, or from home on Zoom.
The launch includes announcement of the new MAC Logo art contest winner, a silent auction with Lake-made art and artisan goods, an engaging tour of MAC’s groundbreaking 3D Virtual Exhibit Archive, an interactive LED light installation
and an exclusive introduction of upcoming Pomo Basket Weaving workshops. Enjoy complimentary Lake County wine samplings and hor d’oeuvres, while taking a trip through MAC’s history and exciting future. Speakers include Moke Simon, District 1 Supervisor; Millie Simon, Middletown Rancheria Tribal Elder, Georgina Marie, Lake County Poet Laureate; Michelle Scully, Lake County Tourism Improvement District Board Director; and more. The Lake County Arts Council in Lakeport, the Art House Gallery in Clearlake, the Lake County Rural Arts Initiative, and Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Project will all join us in highlighting the critical role of the arts in community well-being and economic development.
On view at MAC is LIGHT, an exhibit of artwork by artists from all over Lake County featuring an interactive ceramic and LED installation in the small gallery by Aimee Marcinko a CMAEP resident artist. The audience will also be invited to participate in a collaborative project with performance artist Laura Kennedy.
In addition to continuing exhibits and education activities, MAC has significantly expanded its programming to engage the breadth of Lake County’s diverse populations and art initiatives. These include introducing a collaborative mural project, Eagle and Condor, at Dia de la Independencia in Kelseyville, and launching the Sounds of Liberation project, a series of intimate performances and conversations about race and music with local Black musicians. Weaving (Weaving Baskets, Weaving Bridges), a cross-cultural project aimed at increasing exposure and understanding of Pomo traditions through workshops in Pomo basketry and other cultural arts, is premiering this fall.
