Lake County Music Guide 7.14.21

This past Sunday I filled in on guitar for Blues Farm at the Running Creek Casino. For my efforts and dedication to quality, Dave B gave me a 32oz can of Kelsey Creek Chocolate Orange Ale, (they can their own beers and ales with this newfangled capping machine – too cool for school, Dudes!…). So I’m sitting here now savoring this fine hoppy accomplishment while putting together this week’s live music guide. Temps are predicted to be only in the mere low 90’s, so it should be a good week to get out and check on some local live music. Also, a new event will make our listening and dancing pleasures even better than last week. Here’s the local live music guide for the week of 7/13 through 7/20.

The Hopland Tap in Hopland continues its newest tradition by presenting another Blues Invitational Pro Jam with Wendy DeWitt on Wednesday night from 7 to 10:00. House band Kirk Harland, Pierre Archain, and Skip Engle will back up some semi-name brand Nor Cal Blues artist, then later bring on some other selected musicians. The use of “Invitational” implies bonafide musicians are asked to perform along with the featured artist. This is a must-see for both musicians, (could be you), and Blues lovers alike.

On Thursdays Blues band Stevie and the Shufflenutz will be dishing out the 1,4,5 from 6 to 8:00 at the Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville. With a great menu, a full bar, plus Stevie and Co, Thursday evening is the perfect start to the weekend. Music is outside on the side – reservations are recommended…

On Friday the Mother of all LC events, The Lakeport Summer Concert series begins its 2021 schedule at the gazebo in Library Park with the highly entertaining LC Diamonds taking the stage from 6:30 to 8:30. Those who have been, know how exciting these concert events can be, and those of you who don’t owe it to yourselves to check it out. Bring a chair, beach blanket, picnic, beverages and maybe a hat – then kick back and let the LCD’s do their thing…

Robinson Rancheria in Nice brings back, by popular demand, the amazing John Paul Hodge on Friday from 5 to 9:00. This homegrown performer has a plethora of Youtube videos for you to preview his talents. Check ‘em out, then check ‘im out!…It’s like a beach resort atmosphere at Richmond Park in the bayside Riviera when Tommy Rox takes the stage. And when T.Rox rocks, he RAWKS the Park – Friday from 6:30 to 9:30, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 5:00. Plenty of boat slips if you’re out on the water – just sayin’…

Hopper’s Corner in Potter Valley will feature the acoustic magic from Cowboy Johnson and Chris Rovetti. When these two guys do their thing, the whole room responds. This time they’re upping the ante with me adding some guitar. And, Hopper’s ain’t that far from The LC – just sayin. Starts at 7:00.

The Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake has a full schedule of live music, good food, a full bar and a pleasant and cool atmosphere for the weekend; On Friday get your fix of Blues Standards, Classics and Torch Ballads when the Majide Trio hit the porch. Music is from 6 to 8:00. On Saturday for Supper, Hillarie Witt will strum and sing herself into your hearts from 6 to 8:00. Sunday Brunch features The 2 Diamonds, (2 of the LCD’s) from 11:30 to 2:30. For Sunday Supper expect Jazz guitarist extraordinaire Jeff Massinari to be playing from 6 to 8:00. Monday Blues will feature the 12 bar excellence of Stevie and the Shufflenutz from 6 to 8:00. As always, reservations are recommended…

On Saturday morning, Mike Guarniero, (that’s me!) will be playing at the Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market at the Floriculture Bldg at the Lake County Fairgrounds from 10AM until 1:00. This is your one-stop shopping place that features locally grown fruit and vegetables, plus an assortment of handcrafted jewelry, knick-knacks and other items for sale, (check out the incredible handmade baskets). Be sure to come by and say hi to me. On Tuesday the FFFM goes to Library Park where many of the same, (plus some not the same) vendors will be out previewing their wares.

Saturday morning has a special meaning – it’s the morning The Ely Stage Stop is celebrating 10 years of business. Those of you who have enjoyed the First Sunday Fiddlers Jam and the museum will appreciate the importance of this celebration 10AM to 3:00. Check out their website to see what sets the Ely Stage Stop apart from so many other historical locations. On this day there will be a number of informational events for the whole family to learn from.

Then from 5 to 9:00, a Farm to Table event to benefit the Ely Stage Stop will take place, with live music provided by Dave Stamey. This event will have a cost of $75. Their website will also explain this event. IMO, the Ely Stage Stop is a true gem in Lake County.

The Riviera Hills Lounge in the Upper Riviera has a schedule change that I’m sure you’ll all approve of – Dave Broida and Blues Farm will be out on the patio from 5 to 9:00. Catch the best views in The LC, a good meal and the excellent Blues of DB&BF. Saturdays don’t get much better… (maybe a good idea to make reservations…).

Adams Springs Golf Course up in the Cobb area will have music Saturday evening with Good Measure from 6 to 10. For Sunday Brunch my old friends, Teardrop Trailer will be playing from 11:30 to 2:00.

The Konocti Vista Summer Concert Series continues with the pulse-pounding, aura enhancing, groove-inducing Reggae music of Ras Rebellion, Higher Logic Project – and as if that ain’t enough, the spectacular rhythms of Pato Baton. Hey, groovin’ is free from 6 to 10:00. Jah, Mon!

O’Meara Bros Brewery isn’t just about a great menu and even greater handcrafted beers and ales, but also local top-notch performers play here. This Saturday Joshua Souza will be the featured performer from 6 to 9:00. Everything I say is true!…

On Sunday the Greenview Restaurant in Hidden Valley Lake will feature the music of Carlos Garay on Sunday from 4 to 8:00.

The Boathouse Restaurant in that nice little town of Nice will round off everybody’s weekend when Dave Broida and Blues Farm take twelve bars to the n’th degree on Sunday afternoon. Cool breezes will accompany this tight Blues band when they play from 2 to 6:00 – or is it 3 to 7:00? Either way, DB&BF plus the cool lake breezes will make it the perfect place to finish your weekend…

Running Creek Casino in Upper Lake will feature on Sunday from 5 to 9:00 the slightly abbreviated Fargo Trio. For a change, the three who do the most work will be able to take all the credit…

Last week, blame it on the heat, I made a few mistakes on the live music guide. Doesn’t do much for my Mensa cred when that happens. I hope this week fares better. Be sure if and when you go out this weekend to stay hydrated, have fun, but most importantly – be safe. I’ll be back next week, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel…

Ah, yes, the last of the beer. Thanks again, Dave…

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has recorded original demos for other performers as well. For the last three years, he has posted on Facebook a local music guide called the Lake County Music Guide.
