Lake County Music Guide – 6.8.21

I’m sitting here boppin’ up a storm listening to Oingo Boingo’s “Best O’ Boingo”. Not sure how many Boingomaniacs there are out there reading this, but it’s frenetic music at its best, and when this CD blasts out their best hits it’s like being caught in a time warp. Woohoo! I feel like sportin’ a Mullet! Anyways, Folks, here’s the live music report for the week of June 8th ‘til the 15th…

Tuesday, (today) The Music Club, which is the Big Valley Hall, which is the Finley Grange Hall, which is getting so confusing so let’s just call it The Music Club. Now I’ve lost my train of thought… oh yeah, Dr. Groove, my band, will be playing between 6 and 8:00. It’s always a casual affair at an MC event, pot luck, BYOB and good vibes outside by the vineyard. No cover, but donations for the event are thankfully appreciated.

The Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville on Thursday will feature an excellent menu along with the music of The Hip Replacements. Music is from 5 to 8:00. Reservations are strongly recommended.

For those of you living in the future, be sure to set the Wayback Machine for Friday, 6/11/2021, 5 to 9:00 at Robinson Rancheria in Nice, Ca, when the Time Travelers take the stage and give you a taste of 20th Century Classic Rock. It just might turn out to be an otherworldly experience…

On Saturday morning the Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market presents William Vanderwall at the Floriculture Building at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Lakeport from 10AM to 1:00.On Tuesday, (the 15th), the FFFM moves over to the Gazebo at Library Park where I, Mike Guarniero, will be strumming songs from 10AM to 1:00. Each of these events will feature fresh locally grown fruit, veggies and plants/flowers, plus an assortment of locally handcrafted items, (the kind that would make great gifts…), for sale. It’s a good time to stock up, Folks.

In the Bayside Riviera on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Richmond Park always has the party when Tommy Rox is playing. Whether you arrive by boat or by car, T.Rox will rock your world. Fri – 6:30 to 9:30, Sat/Sun – 2 to 5:00. On Saturday evening the Phenom from Phresno, Richie Blue and His Band will be playing everything from just about every genre, but mostly Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll. IMHO, he’s in the top ten of The Most Relatively Unknown Guitarists in The World, (TMRUGITW – look it up!…), and he’s no stranger to The LC. Yeah, Folks, really, he’s that good. Head on over and give Richie a great big Lake County shout! Music should be 5:30 to 9:30.

The incomparable Austin and Owens will be displayin’ their musical prowess on Saturday evening at O’Meara Bros Brewing Co in Lakeport from 6 to 9:00. Try some of their excellent handcrafted beers and ales, enjoy a meal. Sublime, indeed!…

The Riviera Hills Lounge in the Riviera will feature food, libations, picture postcard-type views and the great Rock ‘n’ Roll of The Fabulous Freakin’ Fargo Bros on Saturday evening. The party lasts from 5 to 9:00. Be prepared to have a fun time. ‘Nuff said! Oh, and it is a good idea to make reservations if you want a table…Running Creek Casino in Upper Lake will feature the hot Blues stylings of Dave Broida and Blues Farm on Sunday outside from 5 to 8:00. Although the Casino only has one bar, DB&BF will give you 12 Bars all evening. Everyone’s a winner!

The Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake has a full schedule for this upcoming weekend, starting with Friday evening when The Majide Trio plays from 6 to 8:00. On Saturday evening David Neft will be playing piano for your dining pleasures from 6 to 8:00. The Andy Rossoff Trio, (catchy name…), will play for Sunday Brunch from 11:30 to 2:30. For their Sunday Supper expect Sheridan Malone to be providing the musical entertainment from 6 to 8:00. And for Monday Blues, Ben Rice Band will be getting toes tappin’ from 6:30 to 9:30. Just watched a vid from this guy. He’s the real deal. Watch, then go see him! Reservations are strongly recommended for any and all of these events.

My friend, TC Culp just called me from Pismo Beach where he and Sunny Cordell have gone to get away from the oppressive Lake County heat. Ha! What a difference a week makes – RIGHT?! So, if you go out this weekend to check out our local live music, dress for a cooler evening, have a fun time, but please be safe. Masks and Social Distancing are still recommended in Lake County. Just sayin’…

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County.
