Lake County Music Guide – 6.23.33

I was a volunteer for Baconfest in K’ville on Sunday where I had the second-best job at the event – selling beer and wine tix. Of course, the best job would have been pouring the afore-mentioned beer and wine. What a great event! They sold out the bacon-themed food contest, which is probably the biggest draw aside from the musical performance from Hot Roux. Of course, my selling partner, Maile Field did all the work – I mostly smiled a lot, carried on the banter and enjoyed the heck out of the day. Woohoo! Looking forward to next year! Anyways, the music listings for this week are going to be as exciting as they were last week, with a couple of new venues beginning their summer schedule. So, without further ado, here’s the live music guide for the week of 6/21 through 6/29, (I know that’s more than a week but you’ll understand why when you read it…).

Put this either on your calendar or your phone’s reminder app – Smiling Dogs Ranch will feature the music of Red’s Blues, not this Wednesday, but the next Wednesday the 29th.

The Blues Invitational Blues Jam at the Hopland Tap will feature the house band of Wendy DeWitt, Kirk Harwood, Pierre Archain and Skip Engle from 7 to 10:00 – and there’s always a local North Bay Blues fave sitting in, making this among the most fun Blues Jams north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Food, libations and Blues – how can you go wrong with that?!? A small cover charge will be requested…

The Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville will present on Thursday the Mark Weston Band rockin’ outside on the curb from 6 to 9:00. Then on Sunday morning for Brunch, Safe Sax will make your meal even more enjoyable from 11AM to 1:30. Always excellent food, always excellent music. Salut!

Let’s all give a big Lake County welcome the Skylark Shores Resort in Lakeport, who will feature the music of the LC Diamonds on Thursday from 6 to 9:00. Should be a fun show, folks…

The Adams Springs Golf Course in the Cobb Mtn area will provide two of the best music performers in The LC on Thursday when Kim Thomas and Anthony Neves, (Tony to his friends…) perform at the Grand Piano from 7 to 9:00. Can it get any better?!?

There’s been a last-minute substitute at the Lakeport Summer Music Series on Friday where The Lake County Diamonds will be showing you all just how good a warm Friday evening of music can be. Bring chairs, food, (no bottles) and maybe a sun hat and then show the LCD’s some love! It’s at the Gazebo in Library Park, from 6 to 8:30.

The Eagles and Creedence are playing Cache Creek Winery east of Clearlake Oaks on Friday evening. Well, actually it’s two very good tribute bands, “One of these Nights” and “Bad Moon Risin’”. But who doesn’t love the music of The Eagles and Creedence? Music starts at 6:00 and tix are $30 in advance, $40 at the gate. Go to Cache Creek’s website for ticket sales and any other info. How cool is this, Dude?!?

On Friday evening at the Happy Gardens Restaurant in Clearlake Oaks will serve up some fine Asian Food while the Mark Weston Band serves up some fine acoustic music from 6 to 9:00. Great food, a full bar and Mark? What’s stoppin’ ya?!?

The Robinsons Rancheria Casino Lounge in Nice will have two nights of excellent music when on Friday, Patton Leatha takes the stage with his Soul, R&B Band from 5 to 9:00. Then on Saturday night everybody’s favorite local band, Twice as Good will do their musical magic from 9 to 1:00. Yowza!

Twin Pine Casino in Middletown on both Friday and Saturday nights will bring on the Two Steppin sensations, California Country from 9 to 1:00. Come give it a whirl!

On Saturday morning from 10AM to 1:00, the Farmer’s Finest Farmers Market at the Shannon Ridge Mercantile in Finley expect some locally grown fruit and Veggies, (and it doesn’t get any fresher than that…), plus an assortment of locally made crafts, jams, oils, baskets, hummus – you know, stuff you just can’t live without. Playing music will be Margo and Friends. It’s the one stop shop and bop event you won’t want to miss. Thank you for supporting our local farmers, food producers and crafters.

Let’s welcome Brassfield Winery in Clearlake Oaks to our weekly schedule when on Saturday evening they throw an “Eruption Party” featuring the Lake County Diamonds from 6 to 9:00. Come enjoy an evening of food, fun and wine while the LCD’s rock the joint.

On Saturday evening the Riviera Hills Lounge in the Riviera will offer excellent food, a full bar, sublime sunset views and the RAWKIN’ good music of Beats Werkin’ from 6 to 10:00. And the music’s gonna be outside – so expect a wonderful time dancin’ under the twilight skies…

O’Meara Bros Brewing in Lakeport on Saturday provides a wonderful menu, some of the best handcrafted beers and ales you’ll find in NorCal, and this Saturday, they give you Dead Rabbits from 6 to 9:00. All this makes the O’Bros the best date night restaurant in Lake County, bar none…

On Saturday evening Richmond Park in the lower Riviera will present Uncle Mercy starting at 7:30. One can still arrive by boat – just sayin’…

For those of you jonesin’ for your Fargo Bros fix, they will be rockin’ the Pope Valley Winery on Sunday from 12noon to 3:00. Love it when a new music venue starts up. Love it even more when the Fargos are playin’ there. You will too…

The Boathouse Bar and Grill in that nice little town of Nice will feature the R&B, Blues, Funk and Rock of Dr Groove on Sunday from 3 to 7:00. With the sun shining and the warm evening weather, this would be the perfect place to wrap up the weekend. Nice Asian flair to their menu to add to the regular burger fair – you’ll like it!

Sunday afternoon at the Wine in the Willows in Lakeport, come by and enjoy some excellent local art, some excellent local wine and the excellent music of Austin and Owens from 3 to 5:00. Everything at this event is going to be top shelf…

Running Creek Casino in Upper Lake is happy to bring you the Mark Weston Band on Sunday from 5 to 9:00. Maybe this will be your lucky night – don’t waste an opportunity…

And finally, the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake always has excellent food, a full bar and music all weekend. On Friday come check out the delightful Torch Ballads, Classic Blues and Standards from a bygone era of music from the Majide Trio. You’ll love their performance from 6 to 8:00. On Saturday evening from 6 to 8:00, the lovely and talented Hillarie Wilt will serenade you while you enjoy your meal. Sunday Brunch will feature the music of The Andy Rossoff Trio from 11:30 to 2:00. You will enjoy their stories as well as the music. For their Sunday Supper come for the food and drink but leave a little room for Chris Forshay. A good evening will be had by all. And for their Monday Blues, come by from 6 to 8:00 to see the one and only LC Diamonds, who will wrap up their tour of Lake County. It’s always a good idea to make reservations for any and all of these events.

Mendocino County

Hopper’s Corner in Potter Valley will give you the dance music of Howard Dockens on Thursday from 4 to 7:00.

Ukiah Brewing will present on Friday starting at 6:00 the music of SR Laws. On Sunday I expect Wendy DeWitt and Kirk Harwood will make you boogie ‘til you drop starting at noon. On Sunday evening it’s all about the Jazz Dudes starting at 6:00.

Shanachie Pub in Willits on Friday will feature the music of 3 Point Hitch starting at 8:00. On Saturday at 8:00, come dance to Carlos Selections and Spider Monkey Beats.

The Ukiah Sunday in the Park Concert Series will feature the Reggae and Rock music of Arise Roots, plus Top Shelf starting at 6:00.

I was excited to see two more venues added to our weekly roster, but now I’m sad to hear two have bowed out. The Spot has shut its doors, maybe for good. And Happy Gardens will no longer be having music on Fridays. Sad indeed. Thank you all who have been there week after week supporting our local music. And please continue to do so or we might lose some more venues. So, if and when you go out live music hopping this week, have fun, but please be safe…
