Lake County Music Guide – 3.9.23

I’m about to pop the top off a bottle of Kelsey Creek Brewing’s “Lemmy” and I gonna savor the flavor while putting together this week’s live music schedule. Ahh, yeah! Just so you know, this is 22 ounces of mind-blowing, ass kickin’ brew from one of our favorite LC breweries. And being as it’s a stout, it pretty much covers all the important food groups. But enough on that, (or is there ever enough?). Hey live music peeps, got some good news for ya. I dropped in last week at the new Hot Cow Bar and Grill, (formerly The Spot in Clearlake), for a meal, a brew and an introduction to the manager. They’re gonna have live music here again, WOOHOO! But because of the weather it’s gonna be done in baby steps – starting this weekend indoors with Karaoke, but the following weekend a band is scheduled to be rocking the joint! More on that later. The menu is the usual burger and sandwich fare with occasional specials, (sorry Mojo, no deep-fried soup…) and, of course, a full bar. As a Clearlakian I’m stoked! Much more to come… Here’s the live music schedule for the week of 3/9 through 3/13.

The Catfish Coffee House in Clearlake and Chris Grant are bringing back another fun Open Mic event on Thursday starting at 7:00. Some guy asked me last week if there’re any open mics in The LC and I told him about this one that happens every 2nd Thursday. It’s very informal and they serve coffee. Lemmy says, “Strum that guitar, ol’ cobber”…

Wine in the Willows in Lakeport will feature fine art, fine wines and the music of Margo and Friends on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30. Lemmy sez, “Good stuff, Maynard!”…

The Smiling Dogs Tasting Room in Kelseyville on Friday evening is happy to bring back by popular demand my band, Dr Groove, from 6:30 to 9:30. Get your fill of R&B, Blues and Funk while sippin’ some award-winning SDTR wines. Lemmy says, “Groove, Dudes!”…

Come see what Andre’s done with the place”…

Lemmy sez “One Shtop Shop, eh?”…

The O’Meara Bros Brewing in Lakeport on Saturday will present the music of Joel Martin from 6 to 9:00. Also on the bill will be an excellent menu, some exceptional handcrafted beers and ales, plus wines for those who prefer. Leymm shez, “the O’Bros bleedin’ rock, Mate”!

Then on Saturday evening at the Riviera Hills Lounge in the Riviera where the great meal, the full bar and sublime sunset views only serve as an adjunct to the exciting music played by Fargo Bros. Come see it all from 6 to 10:00. Schlemmy shez, “Git yer Mojo workin’…”…

The Saw Shop Public House in Kelseyville will not have music on Thursday evening, but on Sunday they will offer an excellent brunch, a full bar and the acoustic solo music from Mike Guarniero, (hey, that’s me!), from 11:00 to 2:00. I got it – have brunch here, enjoy the music, then about 2:30 head on over to the KCB brewery for the Fargos. Systemmy shash, “It’s all bloody good, me matey!”…

Phlemmy, Ptolemy, er… Shkreli… um… shez, “Jesh go schee ‘em, Mate!”

I went to a fun event this past Sunday, a Musician’s Memorial for all the Mendocino County musicians who have departed. Ironically, it was organized by a local MC musician named Bobby Keys, who later himself passed and is now memorialized with all the rest. Nice event – and there are some pretty good bands coming from Mendo Co. Check ‘em out when you get a chance. Anyways, as you can see things are getting better, and with Spring just around the corner there’s much more to come. So, if you go out this week to enjoy the best of what’s being offered musically, have fun – but please be safe…

By the by, Lemmy was the lead singer/bassist for the British proto-punk, biker hard rock metal band, Motorhead. His music was fast and aggressive, much like the stout. And, um… folks, I do believe Lemmy just ate the microphone…

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has recorded original demos for other performers as well. For the last three years, he has posted on Facebook a local music guide called the Lake County Music Guide.
