Lake County Music Guide 12.30.21

Well, Folks, we’ve come to the end of 2021 and the excitement is overwhelming as we draw down to our favorite day of the year – National Bacon Day! Imagine all the recipes Bubba would have mentioned to Forrest if he was a bacon farmer. I believe shrimp would have lived up to its name by comparison. But to not mention the day after – New Year’s Eve – would surely be a pointless omission. And because this week’s live music schedule is also pretty shrimpy, (although there IS live music on each of the next 7 days!), I’ll list all the local Lake and Mendocino Counties’ NYE celebrations (which include live music) as I have the last few weeks – at the end. So, here’s your live music guide for the week of 12/30 to 1/3…

The Saw Shop Public House on Thursday will feature the rousing Blues music of Dave Broida and Blues Farm from 6 to 9:00. The SSPH has taken every measure into consideration with their outdoor tenting arrangement, so you’ll feel comfortable while enjoying an excellent meal and libations. Call it a pre-NYE Party, and then join in the fun. Reservations are recommended. The Blue Wing, along with having a NYE party on Friday, will also feature live music the rest of the weekend. On Saturday evening Jazz guitarist, Jeff Massanari will play from 6 to 8:00. For Sunday Brunch expect me, Mike Guarniero, to perform solo while you’re munchin’ a bunch of brunch – 11:30 to 2:00. For their Sunday Supper come for a meal and then check out Chris Forshay from 6 to 8:00. For Monday Blues, get in your fill of 1,4,5 when Stevie and the Shufflenuts take the stage from 6 to 9:00. Reservations are recommended for all of these shows…

Okay, Folks. While you’re still completely sated with bacon, it’s time to gear up for New Year’s Eve. This is who’s playing on Friday, December 31st; Red’s Blues from Sacramento will bring the 12 bars to the Smiling Dog’s Tasting Room in Kelseyville.

Those fargin’ Fargo Bros are up to their usual over-the-top Classic Rock plus juvenile antics at Konocti Vista Casino in Lakeport.

The Time Travellers will rock the joint at Hopper’s Corner in Potter Valley.K&J, (Karen and John), are gonna be rockin’ it at The Moose Lodge in Clearlake Oaks.

The Swinging Chads will be swingin’ at Omeara Bros Brewing in Lakeport.

Thunder Cover will RAWK at Robinsons Rancheria in Nice.

Fogg will be ringin’ in the news with some excellent Classic Rock at The Greenview Restaurant in Hidden Valley Lake.

The Lost Coast Smugglers will get you rockin’ and rollin’ at Richmond Park in the Riviera.

Majide Trio and Friends will tantalize at The Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake (5 to 9:00 – NYC ball dropping at EST midnight).

Scotty J will usher in the New Year at The Spot in Clearlake.

Margo and Friends will rock their varied musical styles to Shanachie’s Pub in Willits.

Rock Candy will live up to their name at McCarty’s Bar in Redwood Valley. Warehouse 21 will be bringin’ it at Rivino Winery in Ukiah.

Moonsick and Bowlegged Buzzards will bring excitement to the Ukiah Brewing Company.

This should be enough to plan your NYE, please call all interesting events for more info if needed. And in the meantime, keep practicing your pucker. One can never be sure… As we draw to a close on 2021, I want to give a humongous shout out to all of you who have supported our local live music during this last year. Without you, there wouldn’t be live music. And I’d also like to give a ginormous shout out to the venues, restaurants, tasting rooms, casinos and wineries, etc. that have kept our music scene alive by providing a home for live music this last year. And a big thanks goes out to the bands and performers who have made you all feel welcome and loved. So, this week when you go out for the last time in 2021 to support our local live music events, please be considerate and wear a mask, have a fun time, dress warm, and most of all – Baby please, please, please be safe! And if I don’t see you this week, I’ll see y’all next year…

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has recorded original demos for other performers as well. For the last three years, he has posted on Facebook a local music guide called the Lake County Music Guide.
