The Beatles once had a hit song called, “Eight Days A Week”. Now, I’m not one of those anal dudes who would nit-pick on a song’s title, (I’m sure “Cat Scratch Fever” isn’t really about getting clawed by your kitty…) but sorry Lads, there’s only 7 days to a week. HOWEVER… I do realize where there actually could be 8 days in a week, and as the creator of the Lake County Music Guide I take personal license in co-opting the actual meaning of that great Beatles hit to suit my purposes… So, my fellow Lake County live music lovers, I’ll be adding an extra day to this week’s music guide for 12/24 through 12/31 where I’ll list a number of New Year’s Eve events, to be found at the tail end of the guide.

Merry Christmas, everybody!

On Friday night at Drinx Bar and Grill, come join in on an eclectic night of music featuring Noise Campaign, Carlos and the Gypsy Pushers, Vinny Pwizzle and Danielle Hudson. Be prepared to be inspired! No cover, just music… Music starts at 7:00.On Thursday, (the first day of Kwanzaa) at the Saw Shop Bistro in Kelseyville, expect the Smiling Dogs Tasting Room in Kelseyville on Friday evening will feature the music of Stevie and the Shufflenutz from 6:30 to 9:30. If Blues is your muse, come to where the wine is fine and the vibe is alibe, (…er…), where you can channel your inner Shufflenut, (if you think about it, it actually works… sortakinda…).

The Riviera Hills Lounge presents on Friday night, Dr. Groove. Get in your fill of R&B, Blues, Soul and Funk from 7 to 11:00. On Saturday night Stevie and the Shufflenutz will be laying down the 1,4,5 from 7 to 11:00. These guys will keep your feet shufflin’ the whole night through.

At Robinson Rancheria Lounge in Nice on Friday come re-live the rockin’ sounds of the 80’s when L.A. band Fast Times takes the stage from 9 to 1:00. Check out their vids on Youtube. Makes me want to break out my old red and black striped T-Shirt, Parachute Pants and those powder blue Air Jordans! On Saturday night, The Time Travelers will take you back to yesteryear with a variety of tunes you know and love. Also from 9 to 1:00.

Twin Pine Casino in Middletown will present both Friday and Saturday nights, Jessie Leigh. This West Coast based Country artist is making waves that are breaking all the way to Nashville. Lots of videos on Youtube – check ‘em out then check her out! 9 to 1:30.

The Bar at The Greenview Restaurant in The Hidden Valley Lake is happy to present another The Open Jam featuring the house band, Carlos and The Gypsy Pushers from the 8:30 to the midnight hour. Come for an excellent meal at The Greenview Restaurant, grab a cocktail at The Bar, then enjoy The Open Jam. What a way to spend The Saturday night. Performers be sure to bring The Instruments…

At the Blue Wing Saloon in Upper Lake on Saturday enjoy a meal with background music provided by the outstanding students of the ViBo Music Academy of San Francisco from 6 to 8:00. For Sunday Brunch enjoy the music of Hillarie Wilt from 11 to 2:30. On Sunday evening enjoy the $25 Supper Special with the delightful Ma Jide Trio from 6 to 8:00. For Monday Blues, Dave Broida and Blues Farm will deliver their 12 Bar Magic from 6:30 to 9:00. For Tuesday Supper there’s a special “New York” New Year’s Eve Supper featuring music will be provided by the BASSICS Quartet of Paul Kemp, Bear Kamarov, George Husaruk and Machiko Shimada from 6 to 9:30. As the Big Ball drops in New York City, champagne glasses will be hoisted in Upper Lake to witness and cheer on a Happy New Year, (in NYC, that is…). To any and all of these events, it’s strongly recommended to make reservations.

For Karaoke Korner, Grand Illusions Karaoke will be handing out the mics at The Barn in Clearlake Oaks. On Sunday it’s Grand Slam Karaoke doing the same at The Riviera Hills Lounge. Bring the band behind me, Boys!…Okay, here’s what’s in store for New Years Eve, (Dec 31 for all of you still confused with the Blue Wing’s NYE event…):The Soper-Reese Theater in Lakeport will feature The LC Diamonds. The Moose Lodge in Clearlake Oaks will feature Dr. Groove. The Riviera Hills Lounge will feature The Blues Defenders. Konocti Vista Casino in Lakeport will feature The Fargo Bros. Robinsons Rancheria in Nice will feature Decades. Coyote Valley Casino in Redwood Valley will feature Hip Hop legend, E-40. Twin Pine Casino in Middletown will feature Super Bad. Hopper’s Corner in Potter Valley will feature Fat Chance Truckin’ Band. The Big Oak Barn in Kelseyville will feature The Tom Aiken Quartet.

I’m sure there’s more happening on NYE, but here’s a good list to plan your evening with. I’ll re-list all this with specific times and any other pertinent details with the other events I may have missed in next Tuesday’s music guide. If you want to get more info out on your event, PM me that info. I’ll include it next week, (please, don’t post flyers – I’m still leery of Messenger after being hacked earlier this year…).

And so, as we celebrate Christmas, Hanukka, Kwanzaa and any of the other holidays that occur this time of year, save some energy to get out this weekend to enjoy our local bands playing around the county. And when you do, have fun, but please be safe…

Article by Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996. After retiring from his job of 26 years, because he recognized a growing local music scene, he decided to devote his time to playing live music again. He's never looked back. Along with his regular band, Dr. Groove, he has filled in on lead guitar for local bands, (Fargo Bros, Blues Farm, C.A.M. Band, Borrowed Time, Time Travelers). He's played acoustic guitar at a some of our local wineries, restaurants, farmers Markets and art galleries. He's also a semi-regular supporting various local Open Mics around Lake County. He writes and records original songs and has recorded original demos for other performers as well. For the last three years, he has posted on Facebook a local music guide called the Lake County Music Guide.
