Lake County Music Guide 1.5.21

Right now, as I compose this week’s music guide – the first of 2022 – I have the “Best of Boingo blasting on the stereo. In particular, I’m listening to the song, “Just Another Day”, and from it I’m reminded what a bittersweet year 2021 was for many of us. Well, 2022 is a new year and hopefully with it comes the promise of better things for all of us. And although the music line-up for the week is limited, (I like to say, small but mighty…), as the days get longer, we can look forward to more events being added each week to our schedule. So, here’s the live music guide for the week of 1/5 through 1/10…

Johnnie Tsunami and the Hurricanes will be blowing through Kelseyville at The Smiling Dogs Tasting Room on Friday evening from 6:30 to 9:30. These guys love the Blues and you all love to dance, so it’s a match made in Heaven.

On Sunday come jam with Margo and Friends. All musicians are welcome from 2 to 5:00. On Saturday evening at O’Meara Bros Brewing in Lakeport, the incredible acoustic guitar savants, Austin and Owens, will give the performance you’ll remember for a lifetime from 6 to 9:00. Add to that an excellent menu and some excellent handcrafted beers and ales, it’s the perfect trifecta…

The Fargo Bros brought us New Year’s Day and they’re back at it again this Saturday at The Riviera Hills Lounge in the Riviera from 6 to 10:00. Excellent Classic Rock and fun times, it doesn’t get any better than this!!! Reservations suggested. Karaoke on Sunday from 5 to 9:00 with Nina Kuhl Karaoke.

Always expect The Blue Wing Saloon to have a full weekend schedule of good performances– this weekend is no different. On Friday evening, enjoy The Majide Trio as they play the delightful Torch Ballads, Blues Standards, and other memorable songs from a bygone era along with an excellent meal from 6 to 9:00.On Saturday evening Sarah Tichava and Hans Brede will make an excellent meal even more pleasing from 6 to 8:00. On Sunday it’s all about Alicyn Yaffee and Benny Rietveld as they play both the Sunday Brunch as well as the Sunday Supper. Homegrown Alicyn is an accomplished Jazz guitarist while Benny is the bassist and musical director for Santana. What a day they’re gonna bring. Brunch is from 11:30 to 2:00, (the eggs bennies are da bomb!) and Supper is from 6 to 8:00. Monday Blues will feature the 12 bar acuity of Those Guys, (a great name!), from 6 to 9:00. There’s limited seating inside but the outside veranda is heated and music is piped out there so you can listen. And it’s always suggested you make reservations.

Over in Ukiah the Ukiah Brewing Co has live music through most of the week; On Tuesday they’ll have Stephan Hollingshead starting at 6:30. Thursday you’ll find James Patrick Regan from “The Deadlies” starting at 6:30. Saturday Jason Wright will do his Flamenco thing starting at 6:30. Sunday Wendy DeWitt will be doing some Boogie Woogie starting at noon. Sunday at 5:00, come check out The Jazz Dudes.

Karaoke Korner and Open Mics/Jams: On Friday the Middletown Arts Center will feature an Open Mic starting around 8:00. All are welcome. On Sunday the premier of the new Sunday Jams at The Smiling Dogs Tasting Room from 2 to 5:00 featuring house band, Margo and Friends. All are welcome. On Sunday the Riviera Hills Lounge will present Nina Kuhl Karaoke featuring The Karaoke Vagabond, Nina Kuhl from 5 to 9:00.

I hope you all had a fun New Year’s Weekend and that one of your resolutions is to continue to support our local live music and the venues that provide it. So, if and when you go out this week to enjoy music, have a fun time, but please be safe.
