Lake County Music Guide – 01.24.23

I’m really stoked, Dudes, for two reasons! The Soper-Reese Theater in Lakeport and Konocti Harbor Resort have, for more than 25 years, been the premier concert settings in Lake County. Both have brought in some pretty impressive musical entertainment; Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Brooks and Dunne, Joe Louis Walker, Lyle Lovett, Barry Melton – just to name a few. Sadly, in 2009 the Konocti Harbor temporarily ended all operations, leaving the Soper Reese as the main concert hall in the county for the next ten years. When the COVID pandemic reared its ugly head in 2020, forcing mandatory business shutdowns, the theater also closed its doors. Until then, the SRT was home to The Lake County Symphony, a number of musical, educational and cultural events, classic movies, and a venue for important fundraising events.

On February 5th (not this week – a week from this one), from 2 to 4:00 expect the live music concerts at the SRT to start anew, (in baby steps, of course…). The first being “Live from the Blue Wing 100th Radio Show” starring Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums featuring guitarist Carmen Getit and saxophone whiz Nancy Wright. This event will be recorded, re-mastered and then sent to a handful of Nor Cal radio stations for broadcast. I was their featured guest artist last month but this one is uber special because it marks the 100th of these shows that BW Musical Director Paul Kemp has produced.

When Konocti Harbor Resort re-opens in the Spring, Lake County will have three bonafide concert settings; The SRT, KHR and the CCW, (Cache Creek Winery), in the Oaks. Can’t wait! Oh, and the other reason I’m stoked is that I just bought a new guitar. But in the meantime, here’s our live local line-up for the week of 2/24 through 2/30…

The Kelsey Creek Brewing in Kelseyville will be brewing up a good time on Tuesday, (the official 1st day of the week), with excellent handcrafted beers, ales and seltzers along with the music of Buskin’ for Brewskis from 3 to 6:00. It’s always a good idea to make reservations.

Okay, here’s a silly joke… What did Roget eat for breakfast? A synonym roll… Tee hee hee! So, if you go out this weekend for some local live music, have fun, but please be safe…

Mike Guarniero

Mike has been playing professionally, both acoustic and electric, for 40+ years. He paid his dues in a robust Sonoma County music scene during the '80s and '90s, then DJ'd for 10 years after moving to Lake County in 1996.
