Two hand made pine boxes to display poetry have been placed on Main Street in Kelseyville.
The first is on the outside of Suites On Main on the south side of the street and the second across the street on Fore Family Winery.
Inspiration for the project came from a couple of sources. I am a local Family Physician (now retired) who for years has enjoyed reading and occasionally writing poetry. Since early April a group of us have been meeting weekly on Zoom and sharing poetry, either our own work or favorites from the wide world of poetry.
A close friend from Portland has been sharing photos of neighborhood poetry boxes that he comes across on his daily walks. I was reminded of the Little Libraries that we regularly run into including the one in Kelseyville in front of the clothing store Oak.
Poetry has a special resonance especially during these trying times.
We need poetry to be shared and what better way than posting poems where folks passing by could stop and read them.
I got permission from building owners and the support and encouragement of the Kelseyville Business Association and Georgina Marie, our Lake County poet Laureate. We plan to post new poems weekly and will use the display on Fore Family Winery for local poets.
