Middletown Art Center (MAC) invites the public to their 48th exhibit and opening reception for IMPRINTS and GOD’S COMICS this Saturday, January 14th from 6:00-8:00pm. Come see the new displays, enjoy the work and meet the artists.

The IMPRINTS exhibit invites us to journey into experiences that leave lasting impressions as we reflect upon memories that have the power to both hold us captive and set us free. Be they traumatic or cathartic, these imprints stay with us and leave us changed. From birth to death, there are myriad events, some small and some monumental, that change who we are and how we see the world. IMPRINTS speak to the happenings that, although personal, are also human and universal: love, fear, triumph and grief.

In conjunction, MAC is excited to present Richard Vargas’ GOD’S COMICS–a compelling collection of powerful work that comments on religion, and the history of art, while incorporating both personal and universal signs and symbols. “I’m trying to embrace my frailty as man and religion as my crutch,” says Vargas. “The ocean represents the depths of the unknown, but it’s also All-Knowing,” he continues. Confronting concepts such as salvation and the inevitability of death, Vargas’ paintings are one man’s deep dive into existential contradictions.

IMPRINTS and GOD’s COMICS will be on view through April 10th, Thursday – Monday, 10:30-5:00, or by appointment. It’s free to the public. A virtual tour will be available by the end of January on MAC’s website.

The MAC is located at 21456 State Hwy 175 at the junction of Hwy 29 in Middletown.
