HOW TO HAVE A GOOD TIME IN LAKE COUNTY IN FEBRUARY

It’s February. Of all the months in Lake County, February is one of the quietest. Spring is just easing in, but things are still pretty sleepy.  I’ve heard people complain that there’s nothing to do in the winter in Lake County. However, the truth is that there is always something going on and always something to do.  Lake County has a myriad of choices.  Sure, it’s a rural place. But because we have several different communities, we always have several different choices.  Let me give you just a few ideas.

  1. I know in winter that sometimes the weather can be a bummer.  I get a bit stir crazy. That’s an easy problem to solve, though. Did you know that if you’re in the mood to party, there are always several options for live music every weekend?  You can dance your heart out. Don’t believe me? Look at THE PARTY CALENDAR.
  2. Now is the best time of the year to be outdoors.  Find a sunny day and climb Konocti or head over to Boggs Mountain to enjoy the views. Anderson Marsh regularly has group nature hikes as well.
  3. It’s a good time to learn something new. Take a class at the Middletown Art Center. The Restore Program offers quality classes taught by local artists who are also great teachers.  Most are only $5.
  4. Go out to eat somewhere new.  We’ve profiled several restaurants in The Bloom.  Give one a try.
  5. Spend a rainy day reading.  If you’re out of good material and are stuck reading the back of cereal boxes, try one of the three books we’ve published. They’re all from local authors.
  6. Do some wine tasting. Lake County’s wines are easily as good as Napa’s, and here you won’t get stuck with $100 tasting fees and loud tourist groups from New York. Odds are you haven’t been to all the wineries in Lake County, especially some of the smaller ones.  We’ve profiled four of those for you already, so there’s no reason for you not to visit.
  7. Go for a swim in the lake.  Just kidding.  It’s really cold.
  8. Visit an art gallery.  The Main Street Gallery in Lakeport always holds a First Friday event, on, oddly enough, the first Friday of every month.  The Middletown Art Center rotates exhibits every six to eight weeks.  It’s a good way to see new things and meet new people.
  9. If you’re still broke from Christmas, you can always find something to do on our FREE CALENDAR.
  10. Winter is always a great time to try something you’ve never done before.  Head over to our HOW TO. . . WHAT?! column. There you can figure out how to wander a labyrinth, make a tasty curry, or get a new wood stove.

Don’t let anyone tell you that Lake County has nothing to do.  If they keep hassling you, refer them to this article.  There’s no reason to sit on the couch and binge watch Star Trek: Voyager unless you really want to.
