Strong Financial Network Donates Lake County Calendars to Raise Funds for Local Non-Profits

Beautiful, full-color Lake County Calendars have arrived! This 24-month calendar has been created and produced by Strong Financial Network with all the beautiful photographs submitted by their amazingly talented clients and community members. Strong Financial Network is donating these calendars to local charities and non-profits to sell, with 100% of all proceeds going directly to that charity or non-profit organization. These 24-month (2023 & 2024) calendars are available for a minimum donation of $20 each.

NEA Big Read Kickoff Comes to Clearlake

The 2023 NEA Big Read hosted by the Lake County Library has partnered with the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College for the program’s formal kickoff event. The kickoff event will take place in the campus library in Building 100, located at 15880 Dam Rd. Extension in Clearlake, on February 9, 2023 from 12-2 pm.

Announcing the 39th Annual Catfish Derby in the Oaks

The planning for the popular fundraising event known as the “Biggest Catfish Tournament West of the Mississippi” is in full swing, and the 2023 Derby is expected to be another successful event. Online entries are being accepted. In-person registration starts at noon on May 18. Derby fishing starts at noon on May 19 and ends at noon on May 21.

Adventist Health Clearlake Opens Rapid Care Clinic in Clearlake

Adventist Health Clear Lake Hospital is excited to announce the opening of its new Rapid Care clinic on January 9. Located at 15230 Lakeshore Drive, Suite 101 in Clearlake, hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. Rapid Care will provide walk-in care for minor illnesses and injuries, treating patients 60 days and older.

NEA Big Read to Launch in February

The Lake County Library is set to launch its 2023 NEA Big Read programming in February for the first time since pre-COVID 2018. The NEA Big Read will commence with a kickoff event at the Lake County Campus of Woodland Community College in Clearlake on February 9, 2023, from 12-2 pm. The kickoff event will feature an information session, free copies of the NEA Big Read book, and an open forum to celebrate love stories and language. District Supervisors will be joining college and library staff and the public for the kickoff event.

State Parks Announces 2023 Anderson Marsh Nature Walk Schedule

The California State Parks Clear Lake Sector has announced the 2023 schedule for guided nature walks at Anderson Marsh State Historic Park. The leisurely walks are led by volunteer State Parks docents on a 3-mile trail over mostly level terrain. There is no charge for the guided nature walks and parking is free for those attending. Guided nature walks will be held on the second Saturday of each month in 2023. The walks begin at 8:30 am. Parking is free for those attending. No pets are permitted on the park trails.

Get Ready for the First Meeting of 100+ Women Strong in Lake County

The first meeting of 100+ Women Strong in Lake County of the New Year will take place at the Soper Reese Theatre in Lakeport on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (doors opening at 5:30 p.m.) Come and enjoy all the excitement and meet your new Steering Committee: Michele Carson, Gretchen Ferguson, Kim Darnell, and Nancy Johnson. There will be mingling, networking, food and beverages, and, most importantly, at the end of the night, a local Lake County charity will be selected to receive a very generous donation that is made possible by women of Lake County.

Experience Music in a New Way: Take a Class at Mendocino College Lake Center

A message from Jeremy Jernigan, musician and instructor at Mendocino College: Hello Lake County Community! My name is Jeremy Jernigan, and I was born and raised here in our beautiful Lake County. I am a musician and music teacher here at Mendocino College Lake Center in Lakeport. I have been teaching our music courses here for nearly 20 years and I am very passionate about keeping music alive in our community. I am teaching Jazz and Rock History (MUS 209) on Thursdays from 12-3 pm and Piano Class (MUS 210) on Fridays from 10 am-1:30 pm. These classes start on the first week of February. IMPRINTS and GOD’S COMICS– Double Exhibit Opens at MAC this Saturday

The IMPRINTS exhibit invites us to journey into experiences that leave lasting impressions as we reflect upon memories that have the power to both hold us captive and set us free. Be they traumatic or cathartic, these imprints stay with us and leave us changed. From birth to death, there are myriad events, some small and some monumental, that change who we are and how we see the world. IMPRINTS speak to the happenings that, although personal, are also human and universal: love, fear, triumph and grief.

It’s Almost Time for the Lake County Restaurant Expo and Restaurant Week!

The first annual Lake County Restaurant Week will span the week of February 5th to 11th. Coordinated by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, residents will be encouraged to try a new restaurant around the lake – restaurants from every corner of the County will participate with prix-fixe menu, small plates, or feature Lake County produce or product at a discounted price.

Quilting Class Comes to Lakeport

The Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild is sponsoring a class this winter, “Beginning Quilting 2.” In this class, participants will learn how to create a traditional Maple Leaf pattern. Quilters will learn how to piece half-square triangles, applique, and setting blocks with sashing. Kerrie Hershey, formerly the owner of Kerrie’s Quilting, teaches this class. Some sewing/quilting experience is recommended.

City Announces Donation to New Youth Center

On December 21, 2022, the City of Clearlake received a $10,000 donation from the Lake County Wine Alliance to support the Clearlake Youth Center remodel project.
Since taking over the Clearlake Youth Center in October 2022, City staff have been working on an extensive remodel, including replacing kitchen equipment and flooring, painting, and all-new activity equipment.

Barred Owls’ Threat to the Spotted Owl To Be Discussed at Audubon Meeting

On Thursday, Jan. 19, at 7 pm, Redbud Audubon will present a Zoom program on the explosive growth of Barred Owl populations in the Northwest and their impacts on Spotted Owls. Barred owls have been increasing in forests from Northern California to British Columbia for several decades and are now imperiling Northern Spotted Owls throughout their range. The newcomers outcompete the smaller owls for both territory and prey.

Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club Offers Floral Design Presentation

The Clear Lake Trowel and Trellis Garden Club will meet at 12 noon, Tuesday, January 17 at the Lakeport Scotts Valley Women’s Club House at 2298 Hendricks Road. Cookies, finger food veggies, coffee and tea will be provided. The featured speaker will be Wil Gonzales demonstrating the art of flower arranging. For 30 years, Wil has been creating unique and thoughtful floral designs for all sorts of special occasions. His talented team has worked at the White House and takes part in the Rose Parade every year. He also participates as a floral artist each year in San Francisco at the Bouquet to Art in Golden Gate Park at the de Young Museum.

County Library Winter Reading Challenge Begins

The Lake County Library’s Winter Reading Challenge begins Friday, January 13. The library is hosting the Winter Reading Challenge as a fun way for residents to challenge themselves to read more in the New Year. Reading has a host of benefits that can have a positive impact on life. The library has programs for pre-K, kids, teens, and adults. Children who can’t quite read on their own can still sign up and parents can record the books that they read together.

Lake County Theatre Company Announces Auditions

Lake County Theatre Company is bringing laughter to the stage with its first show in 2023. Fishwrap, by Ben Bromley, is a hysterical comedy about the struggles of a small-town newspaper to survive in the digital age. While management tries to keep the “Independent” afloat, the news staff works to break a story that will ruffle feathers in the community. Along the way, the audience meets colorful characters inspired by the playwright’s decades in the newspaper business.
