Okay – there’s good news and there’s bad news… The Good; those uber-cool elbow bumps are really catching on. The Bad; as we have probably all expected, many of the Lake County venues that provide live music will be limiting service until further notice, which means most of the scheduled live music events have been canceled.
Valentine’s Day can best be described in a song. Local Upper Lake singer/songwriter John Paul Hodge has written a song that should be the national anthem for Valentine’s Day. It’s called “Smoochie Song”. Look it up on Youtube. Give it a listen. Then try telling me that I’m wrong… As we all practice our puckers for this coming weekend, just know that there’s lots of Valentine’s Day live music events scheduled in Lake County starting Friday. Check it out!…
PROFOUND REVELATION ALERT!!! I was just looking at a map of Clear Lake, (the lake itself…), and realized that it’s shaped like a Do-rag. What that has to do with the price of tea in China I’ll probably never know, but thought I’d share anyways… Here’s the live music guide for the week of 2/4 thru 2/11…
Okay, since we all survived the Great Blizzard of 2020, it’s now time we got back to normal, whatever that might be… (It’s relative, after all – my normal could be your worst nightmare:) This Saturday marks the start of the Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year to us Occidentals. Either way, it’s a time for every family to thoroughly clean out their house in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for incoming good luck, (a metaphor?…). Fat chance of that getting done in my house… I gotcha fung shway right heah… fagitaboutit! Here’s the live music guide for the week of 1/21 through 1/28
Okay, just tying everything up before posting. Now I’m staring blankly at my monitor. My process is to gather all the info on Monday, then put it all into words on Tuesday, then post it in the afternoon. Seems simple enough, right?! Not always… Thank you. Anyways, here’s the live music guide for the week of 1/14 through 1/21.
Mark Twain said about New Years, “Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. Yesterday, everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last drink, and swore his last oath. Today, we are a pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from now, we shall have cast our reformation to the winds and gone to cutting our ancient shortcomings considerably shorter than ever.”
The Beatles once had a hit song called, “Eight Days A Week”. Now, I’m not one of those anal dudes who would nit-pick on a song’s title, (I’m sure “Cat Scratch Fever” isn’t really about getting clawed by your kitty…) but sorry Lads, there’s only 7 days to a week. HOWEVER… I do realize where there actually could be 8 days in a week, and as the creator of the Lake County Music Guide I take personal license in co-opting the actual meaning of that great Beatles hit to suit my purposes… So, my fellow Lake County live music lovers, I’ll be adding an extra day to this week’s music guide for 12/24 through 12/31 where I’ll list a number of New Year’s Eve events, to be found at the tail end of the guide.
It’s the most fattening time of the year! Yup… dig in, folks! There’ll be snacks at work, parties to attend, samples at the shopping malls, friends bearing fruitcakes, friends bearing fruitcakes, SHEESH!… But that’s okay because there’s gonna be plenty of good local live music that should give you a chance to dance it all off. Here’s the live music guide for the week of 12/17 through 12/24.
Funny how coincidences work out… I cut my musical teeth playing in Sonoma County back in the ’80s. It was a thriving music scene where in some places where you could find two or three night clubs all within a short walking distance of each other. Many of these clubs and bars had live music seven nights a week. Well, just this last weekend I had a conversation with a friend about how this sort of scene is sorely, (say that real fast – sounds like the name of a dinosaur…), lacking here in The LC. And then, VOILA! Two venues right next door to each other, right here in Lake County, will be offering live music same day same time. Coinkydink? Find out in this week’s live music guide for 12/3 through 12/10…
On the eve of another PSPS, (that’s power outages to the uninformed and/or those lucky bastiges with solar panels…), I have to race with time in order to get this done before my WiFi goes out. It’ll be short but sweet, Folks. Here’s the live music guide for the week of 11/20 thru 11/26….
I have to do this week’s guide quickly because I’m flying out tonight and won’t be around for a week. Got too many things to do before. Forgive me if this seems incomplete or even inaccurate, but… Here’s the live music guide for the week of 11/5 through 11/12… The Moose Lodge in CLO has […]
Here I sit at the Clearlake Senior Center amongst about 200 other power refugees recharging phones, I-pads, laptops, etc. Since I have no WiFi at home I’m putting the music guide together amidst the confusion of the Senior Center. Truth is, I’m such a 20th Century guy I had no idea how to connect to […]
Last weekend I played a solo acoustic guitar gig at 6 Sigma Ranch and Winery – great fun, good audience and an excellent “farm to table” feast. At the end of the evening when I was given compensation for my performance I was offered as a bonus a bottle of their 2011 Tempranillo, an insanely […]
There used to be a saying about driving through a small town; “If you blink you’ll miss it…”. That’s sort of like this week’s music guide – there’s so little going on you may want to alternate eye blinks so you don’t completely miss out, cuz there are some fun things happening. Here’s the Readers’ […]
Hey, LCMG’ers, the first thing you’re gonna notice in this week’s guide will be its obvious lack of content. SILVER LINING ALERT! – this could be a good thing… After weeks of “too many musical events, so little time”, we’re faced with a live music schedule that probably won’t burden you with too many options. […]
I’m listening to the Red Elvises, tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard. I’ve always liked music that can be a little off, and this band best defines, “a little off”… We can all use a good laugh these days, what, with the impending Civil War, another economic meltdown, alien invasions, Zombies and […]
