Before The Darkness It’s time That time Before clouds, Before downpours, Before shadows Become so long That clocks Lose their meaning. Outside Beside The cabin Young maple Oak and madrone Guard the ditch On Admiral Way And warn: “Don’t fall in!” But I do. I descend When season And forest Quietly ask me To clear and clean Ditches, holes And patchwork fissures Before the darkness Surely appears. After all That has happened In this life, I am at home Here to live With neighbors. Here to steward; Trusting The arrival of An eternal Spring.
