Annual Lake County Burn Ban Lifted, Effective Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at 8 am

The annual Lake County Burn Ban for 2022 is lifted as of 8:00 am, Wednesday, November 30, 2022 with CalFire’s determination that wildfire risk has been significantly reduced by the recent rains. Burn permits are required for all outdoor burning in the Lake County Air Basin. Burn permits will be available at your local Fire Protection District.

Mendocino College Announces Open Auditions for Once

Mendocino College will hold open auditions for all performers wishing to be a part of the college’s Spring 2023 production of the musical Once. Auditions will be in the college Center Theatre on Saturday, December 10th starting at 10 AM. The college will collaborate with the Ukiah Players Theatre in casting for Alice in Wonderland.  On December 10, actors will have the opportunity to audition for both plays and to be seen by college Once director Reid Edelman and UPT’s Alice director Chris Douthit. Everybody is welcome, and no prior experience is required. Once will be performed March 23-April 2, 2023, at Mendocino College’s Center Theatre. Alice will run April 6-30 at the Ukiah Playhouse.

The Lake County Fair Hosts Go-Kart Winter Series

In an extraordinary move, the Lake County Fair Directors voted to take on the Indoor Go-Kart Winter Series when no bids came into their request for proposal. With amazing support from racing enthusiasts and the community, the indoor track, “which is better than ever,” in the Baldwin Pavilion came together quickly. Thanksgiving weekend was their third race, and they are going strong.

Lake County Library Offers Craft Classes in December

Just in time for the gift-giving season, the Lakeport Library will present two craft classes in December. Both classes will be presented by Amy Patton at the Lakeport Library at 1425 North High Street in Lakeport. The classes are free to attend, and all materials will be provided. Supplies are limited, though, so registration is required by calling 707-263-8817.

Festival of Trees Kicks off the Holiday Season

The 4th Annual Festival of Trees, a benefit for Hospice Services of Lake County, returns to a magical venue at Sophie’s Day Spa, 3855 Main Street, on Saturday, Dec. 3. The Festival of Trees Spectacular Party and live auction features 25 exquisite Christmas trees designed and donated by community members. Proceeds from the live and silent auctions will support the Wings of Hope grief counseling program for children and families and the special needs of hospice patients throughout our Lake County community.

Soroptimist Club Donates to Sponsoring Survivorship & Announces Holiday Event   

At the November meeting, Soroptimist International of Clearlake presented $500 to Sponsoring Survivorship. The Soroptimist Club has been supporting the organization for many years by joining the annual walk and making a cash donation. The event will be at “The Ripe Choice Farm and Catering” on December 14 at 5:30 pm.  Members, family, friends, and anyone who wants to contribute towards improved education for girls and women is invited.

Lake County Symphony plays Mozart and More at Upcoming Fall Concert

The Lake County Symphony performs music by Wolfgang Mozart, among others, in the 2022 “Amadeus in Autumn” Fall Concert at 2 p.m. on November 20 at Lakeport’s Soper Reese Theatre. The concert begins with a performance by the newly combined Community and Youth Orchestra playing several energetic and recognizable pieces that are guaranteed to create some noise from the audience.

1st Annual Punkin Chunkin Festival is a Success

On the first Saturday in November, Lake County Farm Bureau (LCFB) launched a new event to raise funds for Lake County Farm Bureau’s scholarship program. The 1st Annual Punkin Chunkin Festival at Wildhurst Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze offered an afternoon of family fun with the first official Punkin Chunkin, vendors, and the last opportunity to enjoy the 2022 Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze. The event raised $4,475 for the scholarship fund.

Middletown Luncheon Club Last meeting of 2022

The Middletown Luncheon Club is back with our monthly speaker program following last month’s informative school board candidates forum. Our programs occur 11 months of the year (no meeting in December) and always happen on the third Wednesday of the month. You might want to add a repeating date to your calendar with the Senior Center phone number, 987-3113, so you never miss one.

North Coast Opportunities, Inc (NCO) invites qualified Subject Matter Experts (SME) to join the California Wildfire Mitigation Program (CWMP) Home Hardening Initiative. NCO seeks qualified companies and individuals to provide historical, cultural, and biological resource services as described in NCO’s SME Request for Proposals, Phase II. PG&E Offers Free Annual Gas Safety Checks to Help Keep Customers Warm and Safe

With colder weather months approaching, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is reminding customers to call to schedule a free in-home safety inspection of their gas appliances. During the visit, PG&E will also relight pilot lights for customers who have heaters or other appliances that have been turned off during warmer months. Inspections help ensure that gas appliances, including water heaters, furnaces and ovens, are operating safely and efficiently, reducing the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning within the home.

The Mendocino College Repertory Dance Company Fall 2022 Performance, Perspectives

Mendocino College Repertory Dance Company presents Perspectives, a captivating performance of contemporary dance, comic visual storytelling, ballet, and Latin social dance. Up-and-coming college performers under the direction of Eryn Schon-Brunner are excited to be performing again on the CVPA Theatre stage after a two-year hiatus. Dancers will bring to life new choreographic works by local and nationally esteemed choreographers: Stefan Haves, Trudy McCreanor, Devon Near, Kara Starkweather, Paloma Rodriguez, and Eryn Schon-Brunner and features costumes by Kathy Katz. Performances are November 18-20, in Mendocino College’s Center Theatre on the Ukiah Campus.

Hospice Services Offers Wings of Hope One-Day Camp

Hospice Services of Lake County recognizes and addresses the unique ways children grieve and heal from losing a loved one. Families with children ages 6 years and older who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives are invited to attend a one-day, free Bereavement Camp. The camp is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., in Clearlake.
